IMPORTANT UPDATE

Veterinary colleagues have advised us that there have been changes to the RCVS guidance on prescribing prescription only medications.

The new guidance requires that a physical examination of the pet has to be performed every time any antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals and antiparasiticides are prescribed, including for all prescription flea / worm / tick products.

What this means in practice is that pets will need to visit their vet for an in-person consultation every time:

• there is a need to prescribe medication for an ear infection (as most contain antibiotics)
• there is a need to prescribe antibiotics for any skin problem, even if it’s a chronic problem.
• there is a change from one flea / worm / tick product to another.
• there is a suspected urinary tract infection.
• there is a suspected gastrointestinal infection.
• there is a need for prescription flea / worm / tick products and the pet has not been seen for 12 months.

The NNC appointed vet has confirmed that readily available ‘over the counter’ products do not provide effective parasite control (Bob Martin / Frontline / Advantage), so please be are aware of the change, and that you factor in any necessary vet visits prior to boarding taking place.

Having to treat our whole facility for fleas would be an unpleasant, costly, and time consuming process, and infestations will affect the health of all animals on site.

If in doubt, please feel free to give us a call or liaise with your local vet.

During these times of extreme heat, we thought we’d let you know the extra measures we’re taking to ensure all our animals are safe and well monitored.

Our kennel team are starting their day 2 hours earlier to let the dogs have a good run early in the day when it’s cool. Whilst every day will be assessed accordingly, no dog will be allowed outside in the exercise areas after 10am. Kennel floors are kept damp to keep the temperature down and depending on the age and breed, damp towels laid down to help keep dogs cool. Large floor fans help keep the air moving and cool, and we’re utlising cooling jackets and collars for those dogs we deem a higher risk.

1 kennel assistant is dedicated to only monitoring dogs welfare between 10am and 5pm, and ensuring the floors & towels remain damp and cool. We have an air conditioned area for any dog we deem it necessary and we’re obviously in constant contact with our dedicated vet.

Please be mindful that when dropping animals off at kennels, they have walk to their kennels. If you can drop off as early or late as possible, it will benefit your dogs greatly.

Many thanks for your understanding and continued support.

Good to know thank you. Will you be opening any earlier for drop off?

Lovely reading this. I've just collected my dog 'Romeo' from you. I am sure he appreciated your teams recent extra efforts in the heat. Thankyou very much for looking after him 👏 kind regards Adrian

Hi, sorry to bother but emailed and sent form for booking, when can I expect an answer please. Thank you in advance for your response

Our boys stayed with you last year when temperatures were at their highest and were looked after fantastically 🥰

Just a quick thank you to all those pet owners who have really taken this heat wave seriously and dropped off and picked up cats and dogs early morning/late evening. As you can see from the images below, ground temperatures are extreme and could cause serious damage and pain to our much loved pets.

Fingers crossed the extreme heat won’t last too much longer and we thank you for your support and understanding.

Both images taken today at 1215hrs showing 2 different surface temperatures.
